Beatriz Correa L. has a degree as a Maya Holistic Therapist from the Universidad Internacional de Ciencia y Tecnologia Maya. In addition, the University has granted Yaxkin Spa a formal certificate as an approved Maya holistic center. She
and our Maya Healers use ancient sacred Mayan natural essential elements found in Wild Organic Melipona Honey, Cacao, Aloe Vera, Mayan herbs, flowers, and tropical fruits

"My first massage at Yaxkin began with a Mayan prayer, led by
director and elder, Beatriz Correa. Blessing the cenote water
held in an earthen bowl, lighting the “new fire” of copal
incense, and encouraging me to breathe slowly and deeply, she
expressed gratitude to the four elements, before inviting me to
lie down and let the

begin. An hour and a half later I emerged—energized, light, and
with a feeling of deep calm. Weeks later, back in New York, I
still felt the energy of the treatment. Magical.
On my next visit, I was offered a sweat bath, or
Zumpul-che,
in a sacred cave on land donated by the hacienda to Mayan
shamans. It was preceded by an elaborate ceremony led by
Jose
Tamay, a Mayan Senior Healer Shaman and the Spa staff who
also help run the Maya Foundation In Laakeech. Among its
various activities in support of local communities, the
foundation donates enough food to three clinics in surrounding
villages to provide the local children with a nutritious meal
every day.
Inside the cave, we sat around the fire, the candlelight
revealing wooden carvings of Mayan gods. Beatriz offered a
prayer of gratitude to the earth, the sky, the wind, and the
rains, then stepped around the circle, to the quiet sound of
drumming, and massaged our shoulders and faces with local wild
honey. She invited us to think about the nine layers of Mayan
existence, to go deep inside to cleanse and purify ourselves.
She invited us to step outside when it became too hot, and where cenote water that had been blessed by the Mayan priest was
poured over us.

Purification Ceremony

new corn body wrap and cleansing ceremony.
Corn is sacred to the Maya. They still perform a sacred
holistic corn ceremony, known as Saká, to please
the Gods and the natural elements prior to each crop season as
they begin their work in their “milpas.” Sak
is a
corn paste freshly made in Yaxkin Spa to nourish and
emollient sensitive skin. This ceremony starts with the
blessing of the Sak and a deep tissue oil massage
followed by the application of the corn paste. A lush fresh
healing Mayan leaf-wrap will cover your body to help skin cells
absorb the nutrients of the paste.
An exfoliating rhythmic massage will wipe off the corn paste
from the skin to gently remove old skin cells, promoting
circulation and revitalizing your body. As a final touch,

Ancient Body, Mind and Spirit Purification
Breath-taking views of Chichen Itza temples embrace the Mayan
Spa jungle cave: our Zumpul-che Sweat-bath. Archaeologists at the ancient
Maya city of Chichen Itza have excavated buildings of great
interest in the history of massage - the royal Maya zumpul-che
or sweat-bath, a sacred ceremonial cave or temple to purify
mind, body and soul. Aztecs practiced similar purification
rituals at a Temazcal.
Each participant is first anointed with essential oils and
prepared with rhythmic sounds of mystic Caracol calls. The
healing power of cenote water is carefully brew with Mayan herbs
and gently pour over stones inside the cave during each
Zumpul-che
(sweat-bath purification) Maya ceremony. This
cleansing ceremony has the natural, beneficial effects and
purification properties of fire and water as cosmic sources for
personal healing to unblock the energy flow of spirit and the
physical body. The ceremony ends in a meditation garden with a
mineral & herbal infusion.
Maya cave purification ceremonies last 90 minutes and are offered at sunset to
